Awaiting applications
by Malte Bruins on March 3rd 2010
Now it is for sure that the hard work of the last weeks was not useless. We reached the application deadline. All together we received 55 applications from all around the world. I did not expect such a great success: Students from 45 nations attending universities in 23 different countries applied for the Rubicon Contest 2010 – unbelievable! One thing is for sure: This year’s contest will definitely surpass the competitions of the last years by numbers – to top the other issues, I will take care of.
In the last days the whole organizational team was excited of reaching the application deadline. I reckon, that I was extremely excited taking every opportunity to check the incoming applications. With Florian of the organizational team I spent a whole weekend to track the countries were the applications and the visits on the Rubicon website came from – and from where possibly another application might arrive from.
I was so excited that I really could not sleep till the application deadline on Sunday evening, when the whole organizational team met in our office to celebrate the last incoming applications. The mails notifying a new application got in minute by minute. Egypt, USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Ukraine, Malaysia, Singapore, England, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Pakistan... .
Sadly, from my point of view we did not receive an application from Ghana, where I spent one month. I really wanted to welcome students from this country. Anyway, I am also looking forward to welcome the students from all the other countries and cannot wait for Rubicon Contest 2010 to begin. |
